For December’s Minerva Crafts Blogger Network project I choose a simple baby sling: McCalls 5678 – Baby Carriers. I figured this would come in handy for the baby and slings from the store are so crazy overpriced.
I picked out a great black and white fabric: Black And White Abstract Stretch Cotton. I figured a nice cotton with some stretch would be best for the sling, that way it has a little bit of give. When I got my package I was very pleased with this particular fabric. It’s amazing, so soft and luxurious – I want to make everything out of it!
I am still currently pregnant, 37 weeks, so I had to torture the dog a bit and use him as my model. He actually loves these types of things and being so close to me and I love it too. He’s currently about 12 lbs so he’s perfect as my model.
I made view A in a size large. I read the reviews on sewing.patternreview.com and everyone suggested to make the larger size. I feel like maybe a large is really a small! This thing is pretty tight but then again that’s probably safest for baby. I’m also thinking that having a big belly is part of the size issue? One benefit of the sling being on the small side is that it’s going to be perfect for breastfeeding. Below I tried to take a picture of the inside empty and while I was wearing it.
The pattern itself is super simple and it was only 1 actual piece. You can add a pocket to it, but I figured I didn’t really need it. After cutting the pattern out it took me about 20 minutes to sew all of the sling. I would say you could buy the pattern, get home and in about an hour have a finished product.
Super simple and easy – perfect for a quick project. Also great as a baby gift too!
hahaha. Guinness is the perfect model ! the sling looks great 🙂 Good luck on the big day!
He really is the perfect model – and he puts up with everything!!! Thank you very much 🙂
That is too cute! You look amazing
Thank you Sylvia!! 🙂
Congratulations!
Please be aware of the dangers of suffocation. Babies neck fat can cause breathing issues if baby is sleeping head downward. Sorry to be bringing this up, but better aware than not.
No, you are very right! When anyone uses something like this they really need to be aware of how they are wearing the baby and what baby is doing/laying, etc. Thanks for bringing it up!
