Throwback Thursday: Cation Designs – Dolman Sleeve Top

Happy Thursday! I found these pictures I had taken back in summer of 2014 but never posted!

This is the Dolman Sleeve Top from Cation Designs – and guess what? IT’S FREE! The description is: Semi-fitted, dolman sleeve knit top with wide scoop neck, half-length sleeves, and banded hems. It requires between 1 and 1 1/2 yards of knit fabric; either 2-way stretch or 4-way stretch.

I actually made this top back in October 2013, took pictures sometime in the summer of 2014 and since have actually given away both of the tops because they just don’t fit me after having a baby. At the time of making them my measurements were 33-28-36. I choose a size small, which was 34 bust on the pattern.

I added 1 inch to the length of the top and that’s it for alterations! Back then I had thought about making the armpit “batwing” part a little smaller but looking at these pictures I think it fits great.

The stripped fabric is a light weight 2-way knit from JoAnn’s. It didn’t have a lot of stretch and had a lot of polyester in it.

The blue fabric below was also a 2-way knit from JoAnn’s but the material was heavier.

The blue was 1 yard of fabric (maybe even less) and I ended up cutting it differently to utilize all of the fabric I had, hence the back seam. It was simple, just added 1/4″ on each side and serged it together.

Overall, this is a super easy pattern. It’s drafted well and has easy to understand instructions. This was my first knit project and you can tell it turned out good – so I’d recommend it for beginners and up.

On a side note: I MISS MY FUN HAIR!! OMG I think it’s time I did something again… look how pretty that is! I won’t lie, I also miss being a few inches skinner and I miss summer!

  1. My hair was that color a couple of years ago. I miss it A LOT, and I’ve been thinking about dyeing it again.

Both of these tops are cute! I’ve had this pattern downloaded for ages, but I’ve never sewn with knits, so I’m a bit nervous. This post definitely makes me feel a bit more adventurous. Maybe this weekend. 🙂 Thanks for the confidence boost!

    1. I’m going back to fun colors soon… I can’t handle my boring brown!

Go give it a try! It was my first knit too and it’s easy!

  2. These look great! That turquoise color looks so good on you! The hair looks fun and I’m loving the picture of Guinness!!
