Sorry it’s been awhile but I’m back! I’ve been busy hanging out with the family, looking for a job, doing all the things around the house that there is never time for and of course sewing. I’ve realized that I sew a ton of things that I never get around to posting – oops! I’m going to try to fix that and show everyone what I’ve been up to and my future sewing plans. This top I made back in the spring/summer and have finally gotten around to taking photos of it. This is the Sweetheart Dress from Patterns for Pirates. Obviously this isn’t a dress, it’s the peplum shirt version. Don’t worry though, I have 2 of the dresses coming in another post – and maybe a third because I’m debating using this pattern for my Christmas dress.
At the time of making this my measurements were: 36-30-39. This put me in a Medium-Large-Medium size in P4P, so I stuck with that (P4P is true to size) and graded the M-L-M. I also added 1″ in length of the top part.
As you can see above I should have done a sway back adjustment but I didn’t. I’m not sure why but I never do this adjustment and really should start. I guess I’m just lazy?!
Other than that I think it fits really well and it looks nice. The waist seam sits exactly at my natural waist – I will say this, if you use a print beware because it can look a little weird there. The waist has a seam and on certain patterns it makes you look a bit wider than you are. I found this out on one of the dress versions I made, check back in a couple of weeks and you’ll see what I mean. That being said, you can just wear a belt and it corrects that problem. Voila!
The peplum is a full circle skirt – so it’s VERY full. In the black it doesn’t look too bulky or anything and twirling is fun! The fabric I used was a cheap black cotton from JoAnn’s, it’s not bad but I’m sure after a few washes it will fade and pill. Ponte is my favorite fabric for this pattern so far.
Overall great pattern and fun shirt. I like that it makes my body look a bit more hourglass. I feel like peplums are very flattering on most body types but beware of looking like you’re wearing kid’s clothing. I’ve seen that happen before, not with this pattern but other peplums that are in the stores. How do you feel about peplums? I know not everyone is on board!
**I realize some of the pictures are blurry but I’m really trying to get this whole photography thing figured out!**
