I’m really excited about this make! It’s so comfortable and I love how it looks with leggings and jeans. If you remember this was part of my #2018makenine. I’ve actually been making a pretty good dent in that list!
This is my first ever Ellie and Mac* pattern and I gotta say – I’m a fan! I’ll be making more of their patterns and more of this top, I’m sure.
This is the Women’s Travelers Top* and comes in a full range of sizes. It features a cowl hood, high-low hemline and optional pocket. I obviously choose to put a pocket in because of carrying around my phone or a random toy the boy hands me. I’m not really the biggest fan of kangaroo pockets because I feel like they can look weird but I don’t mind it on this one. It looks too high up in the picture but it doesn’t seem that way when I’m wearing it.
The hood is great because it’s large and drapes nicely. I did sew the outside fabric and lining together down the center seam. This way it lays better and doesn’t get bunched up.
Also, thumbholes. Need I say more?
The sizing was a bit crazy for me. I measured as 36-31-40, which would put me in a M-L-L but according to the finished measurements, I would literally be swimming in this thing. I tend to like my clothing a bit snug so I sized down to an x-small for all measurements. This put the finished bust at 40″. I also added 2″ in length since I’m so tall. I think the fit is perfect
I’m assuming that it’s just this pattern but I’ll be keeping an eye on sizing for my future makes with this pattern company. But seriously, I’m loving this hoodie. It’s just different enough from the norm.
I used a french terry/lycra mix that I ordered from Creatively Caleigh. I found her on a Facebook group and she had a pre-order, so I don’t think the fabric is available anymore. It took about 3 months to get, which is typical with custom pre-orders. It’s probably easier to just get something similar online since this is a basic black, but I will say her quality was better than anything non-custom.
Overall – great pattern and I highly recommend it! it’s also simple for beginners! Oh, and the elephant in the room – I got bangs. I hated them at first and actually cried because I was so upset but now they are growing on me and obviously they are on my face so I just decided to rock them like I love them!

Loving your top, especially the hood and thumb holes. Those sizes are crazy though! I also love your hair. If it helps, I cried too when the hairdresser cut my hair much shorter than I wanted. But after I calmed down a bit, it turned out I really liked it, and have keep it shorter for nearly two years now!
I was shocked at the sizing, I would have literally been swimming in a moo-moo LOL But sized down, I love it so much! Thank you about the hair, I am getting more and more used to it but it’s still kind of weird. I’m glad you ended up really liking yours! I don’t know if I’ve seen yours longer, or maybe it’s not processing because I’m so used to how it currently is.
