I’ve been super busy sewing, creating a new layout for this website, teaching a friend how to sew, enjoying the warmer weather and binge watching Project Runway (still…). I have a few garments to update about and this is the first one: McCall’s Fashion Star M6707 – Misses’ Pants. I made shorts instead of capris or pants, so I could see how I liked the pattern.
I first saw this pattern in the winter and envisioned a black/white 2-tone kinda “ska” pant. I love black and white together – it’s magical. Then Jo-Ann Fabric had one of their amazing 5 patterns for $5 sales and I snatched it up. Once again I debated on making a muslin but decided to make shorts first and see how things went with the fit. I didn’t alter anything but the length of the leg and I followed all the directions (kinda shocked at myself on that one!). I gotta say I do love this pattern. It was very simple and came out looking super professional. I used black stretch sateen and I think that was the perfect choice, makes them look classy:
After I was almost done sewing I remembered I own a serger. Is it pathetic that I’m too lazy to change out the thread?! Honestly though, if you have ever threaded a serger you understand what a pain it is just to switch colors!! So I figured f- it, it’s on the inside, whatever…
Did you notice my super awesome tag? I’m still SO excited about those! I probably should make a post about where I got them and how happy I am with them!
So back to the pattern… It’s great for anyone wanting to tackle making pants. I was intimidated at first, wondering how they would fit but I’m really happy with everything. Maybe they were made just to fit my bum perfectly? 😉 Here is a picture of how they sit on my hips:

I’ll be making this pattern over and over. It’s fantastic! The only annoying thing is the way the fly goes. I know that is how the women’s are and the men’s are opposite – but it’s much easier to have the men’s style since I’m right handed. Also, if you haven’t ever done a fly like this before, the directions were amazing and I had zero issues with figuring it out. I was VERY proud of myself 🙂

Those shorts look great on you. It looks like a good pattern, I really like the style with the stripe up the leg. I rethread my serger by cutting the threads near the spool, replacing the spool with the new colour then knotting and pulling them through. Sorry if you already know about this method, but it does make it faster and easier! I’m not as bothered by a beautiful garment interior as some bloggers, but I do force myself to match the thread colour…mostly! Love that last photo 🙂
