I’m excited to say I’m going to be taking part in Lucky Lucille’s Sew For Victory Challenge! I didn’t think I’d be able to join since I was working on the Mad Men Challenge and it was taking up a lot of time, but I’m happy to say all I have left for that is hemming! I love all of these challenges, it really motivates me to try new things and push myself. Don’t forget to check out i heart fabric’s copy cat challenge that I entered my Gwen Stefani “Settle Down” video pants in. 🙂
About a month or two ago I found a mail order pattern at the local antique mall and haven’t had a chance to tackle it yet. I did lots of research and found out it’s a Sue Burnett pattern from circa 1940’s, so it’s perfect for Sew For Victory. I’ve never used a non-printed pattern before so I’m a little bit intimidated but thankfully Lucky Lucille put up this handy post: Working With Non-Printed Vintage Patterns from Debi of My Happy Sewing Place.
I went to Jo-Ann fabrics today and found a lovely hot pink seersucker gingham print fabric and it was on sale, SCORE! After I bought it I got worried because 1940’s fashion is known for drab colors, but Rochelle reassured me that it’s a common misconception, so I’m all giddy again! This dress and fabric will be perfect for those hot summer days.
Here is the pattern, it’s a “Smart Two-Piecer” #8455. I’m debating on if I should just make the dress or both the dress and bolero, guess it just depends on time.
What a lovely pattern. That dress is going to look absolutely GORGEOUS in pink gingham! Good luck with it. x
Thank you very much! I’m really excited to start it. I hope it comes out as cute as I’m imagining 🙂
Yay you’ve almost finished your mad men dress how exciting! Can’t wait to see it! That pattern looks so cute and will be perfect in pink gingham!! I am slowly running out of time for the 40s one so many challenges. I have to take a heap of photos this weekend and finish my mad men!! Eiik!!
Thank you 🙂 Are we allowed to post our finished Mad Men outfits before Julia does? I don’t know the rules LOL I’m starting my 40’s one tonight, so I hear ya about the time issues! I’m sure you’ll get everything finished by the deadlines and they’ll look great 😀
