CLOSED: 6 Year Blogiversary & Giveaway

Samantha has won the contest – congratulations! I have already emailed and she has responded 🙂 Thank you to everyone who entered!

A day (or two) late and a dollar short – story of my life! But my motto is “better late than never!“. February 15, 2019 marked the 6 year anniversary of me starting my blog. This is so crazy to me. I can’t believe 6 years have flown by so quickly. I haven’t always been the best at updating consistently, but life gets in the way. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

I’ve been sewing for much longer than 6 years, it’s more like 30 (on and off) but 6 years ago is when my passion ignited to the point of a addictive hobby I spent all my free time and money I don’t have on. I won’t ever forget my Mom giving me that sewing needle and thread when I was 6 so I could fix my baby blanket. I may have sewn that blanket to my pajamas – but that’s when the fire was lit!

As a child, I liked to sew Barbie clothes and bedding. As a teenager, I would sew pillows, boxer shorts and various things for the dog. My niece, Carrie, was 5 years old when I was around 16 and I would sew her mock Gwen Stefani outfits and make her wear them. Once in college I got really into sewing hippie clothes but hadn’t learned about bust darts and correct fitting yet. In 2012 I had plans to see No Doubt in NYC and wanted to make Gwen’s ‘Settle Down‘ music video pants. After this, I wanted to sew 24/7. About 7 months later I decided to document all of it in this blog.

So here we are today. I’m about 2 shy of 200 posts! I wish I could be more consistent with posting each week but oh well. I do make sure to sew a few times a week. I feel like it’s my therapy and helps my mental health. I’m sure I’ll make a post about the benefits of that one day.

Now that you’ve read all my rambling, onto the GIVEAWAY! Yay!

Update: It seems like there is a misunderstanding of the commenting. You will need to comment on my actual blog, pictured below in red. You will need to scroll down towards the bottom of this page. Then you can use the Rafflecopter widget to say “I commented!”. I hope that helps clear things up, good luck!

I’m giving away Tilly’s most recent book: Stretch! Make Yourself Comfortable Sewing with Knit Fabrics. If you’ve ever read my blog, you’ll know I am a huge fan of knits and Tilly. So I figured this would be perfect! I’ve made a couple garments from this book, but I’m really far behind on posting things! Click here if you want to check out my other Tilly makes.

The book has great tips, tricks and instructions on working with knits. I love that there are instructions on sewing with a regular machine or a serger. She even included how to thread a serger, which is a huge pain in the ass! The book itself is beautifully written out and designed. There are 6 patterns and each pattern you can “make it your own”. This book is perfect for anyone: beginner or novice.

Here is the description of the book:

Stretch! offers perfect proof that easy-to-wear clothes can be seriously stylish with a collection of outfits that combine the comfort of stretch fabrics with Tilly Walnes’ signature look. Even experienced stitchers are often wary of working with stretch knit fabrics, but in this book Tilly demystifies the techniques needed and shows how to sew stretchy makes on a regular sewing machine – no need for a fancy overlocker. Aimed at dressmakers who have grasped the basics and want to expand their sewing horizons, Tilly’s tried-and-tested, learn-as-you-make approach is structured around six made-to-measure, speedy-to-sew garments. Tilly’s friendly instructions and the clear step-by-step photographs are accompanied by lots of tips and tricks to make your sewing a breeze, and the multiple variations and ideas will help you customize your garment to suit your own style.

  1. I love the Joni dress – but am torn over whether it would suit me? Have been meaning to buy this to find out!

  2. Congrats on 6 years of documenting your sewing and inspiring all of us! 🙂 So… Bettine is the only Tilly pattern I own, but I’ve made it twice and worn it a ton so I think it’s still counts as a favorite. I really want to sew a Seren next.

  3. After seeing your version of the Fifi Pajamas I want to make them in so many colors. They are gorgeous.

  4. I love the Ness skirt… I have the pattern but need the perfect fabric. And from the book, I really want to try the baseball T-shirt first!
