COEMI – Jessi Hoody

This week I’m bringing you a hoodie that I made a couple of months ago. Just to warn you, this one is not for the faint of heart. It’s actually a really easy sew but I was so intimidated to even start it that I put it off for almost a full year. When I created my #2018makenine I put this on my list and swore I would conquer it this year. Why is it so intimidating? It’s a European pattern and I wasn’t so sure on measurements and instructions. The good news is that they do have instructions in English and the sizing isn’t too terribly difficult.

This is the Jessi by COEMI. There were two different websites to download the pattern but one of them is all in German and when I was trying to check-out it wasn’t happy that I lived outside of Germany. I’m sure this was just me being confused but in the end, makerist.de was easiest. Either way, I wish you luck!

IMPORTANT: When you print this out, you will NEED to print it on legal paper, TRUST ME!!! At the time of making this my measurements were 36-31-40 and I went with a size 40 in the bust, graded to 42 in both waist and hips. While this seems to look good for the black version, I’m not too fond of it in that size on fox one. It also feels a little tight across the chest. Next time I’ll make 42-44-44 at least. This pattern has no seam allowances, so that is also why I sized up but ended up actually needing to size up more. I used my serger for all seams, which means my allowances were about 3/8″.

As you can see above, I went with the cowl neck instead of the hood. I plan on making the hood eventually but I’m a sucker for a big fat cowl neck like this. So, I made two 🙂

I could have probably done a swayback adjustment, oh well. Maybe one day I will actually do one. They aren’t hard, I’m just lazy.

The Star Wars fabric is from JoAnn and the fox is from a custom knit group on Facebook. I really need to keep track of who I order what from. It’s difficult to get more after the presale though, usually the retail goes quickly. Both are amazing medium weight knits with lyrca.

Look! Pockets! You know I demand pockets in patterns and these ones are hidden so well and aren’t bulky. The pattern also has a nursing option, you just have to put zippers right in the seams:

As the pattern is written, the bottom band is super long and you can wear it as a tunic or slutty dress I guess. I like the wear the Star Wars one with black leggings but I made the band on the pink one half the height. Also, the cuffs are SUPER tight, I made those wider on the pink one. I would suggest adding 1/2″ honestly.

Overall, I love how different this pattern looks and how many compliments I’ve gotten on my hoodies. So, if you are feeling brave – GO SEW IT NOW!!! I also want to add this here, I was debating on if I should or not but figured I will in case anyone feels too intimated to make this one. Peek-A-Boo Pattern Shop has designed a similar hoodie: Aspen Pullover. I debated on if this was ethical or not, in the end I guess it’s okay. I love their patterns and trust in what they design, so I can see why someone would choose her stuff over a European pattern. The only difference I can see is that hers is a raglan sleeve and if you want the hood it costs extra. So you do what you need to do. I will eventually be buying this one and making it also.
