A couple of weeks ago Melissa from Mahlica Designs asked me if I’d like to participate in the Creative Sewing Challenge hosted by her and Diane (gatorbunnysews) of Blue Dot Patterns. I’m always limited on sewing time because of the baby, but I thought this sounded like a lot of fun, so I said yes right away. At first I couldn’t decide if I wanted to make the Georgia Top or the Margo Blouse. I decided on the Georgia in the end because it looked so comfortable and I had an idea of what I wanted to make.
I sewed up View C and added lace to the top. While I know this isn’t super crazy “creative”, it still counts as something! I really like how it turned out. I had a specific lace in mind but when I went to JoAnn’s they didn’t have any left, but then I saw the leopard lace! This stuff is amazing! It has stretch to it and it’s soft, most lace itches like crazy. I’m crazy for the print too.
At the time of making this my measurements were 37-32-40, I made a size Medium. I added 2 inches to the bottom band and 1 inch to the length of the shirt. I have a really long torso, so I typically need to add at least an inch.
The black fabric is a 4 way stretch from JoAnns. It drapes beautifully and is super soft. I should have bought 10 yards of it because I want to make 101 tops from it!
I probably won’t wear this top as much in the winter since it’s so cold but I think in the summer it will be perfect. It will have a nice breeze. I’ll have to wear a strapless bra if I don’t want straps showing, but honestly I’m kinda tacky and will just wear regular bra and have straps showing – it’s really not that big of a deal!
I know I look insane in the picture above but I liked how it really showcased the lace and how it the contrast looks. Ignore my face.
I also decided to make View A. This is a Medium and also in a 4 way stretch fabric. I think I should have made a size Small instead. The only alternations I made on this one was adding 1 inch to the body length and using a 1/4″ seam allowance instead of the sugggested 1/2″.
Matching up the pattern on that stretchy fabric drove me insane! I’m going to give my Mom this top because it seems like a print she would wear. Hopefully she likes it!
Overall this pattern was super easy and a very quick make. The directions were very clear and descriptive. I’ve already bought fabric to make the Margo Blouse. I just need to add it to the queue – which is SUPER long!
Be sure to check out the rest of the sewists that participated in the challenge! Everyone did such a great job 🙂
And lastly, my favorite outtake:
Who cares about super crazy pattern hacking. The Georgia may be a simple design but it’s a good design. Just adding a little lace to it a little makes it even better.
This is one of those tops I need in my closet, wanna make me one? The black lace looks cute with jeans on a casual day (but it’s super comfy) but it can also be dressed up. I love it! And your little guy is adorable….again!
Great little black top! JoAnns sometimes has some surprising fabrics. Looks so cute – as does the little one!
Leopard print lace?? Yes please! Cute tops!
Great top. Love the lace. So pretty.
Thank you! 🙂
