I’ve just recently discovered Ellie and Mac* and already the last few patterns I’ve made were from them. What can I say? I’m impressed! This pattern is the Everyday Tee and a great basic wardrobe builder. I’ve made quite a few t-shirt patterns and I this is my new favorite. I love the fit and the neckline. I also liked that it’s a little longer – and I didn’t even have to add length for that! (I’m 5’10”) There are two options for this shirt: Loose and Fitted. I choose fitted for both.
The first one I made is from this pink “sportswear” (I use that term loosely) that I bought from Hobby Lobby about a year ago. You might recognize it from my Avery Leggings that I posted a few weeks ago. It was on clearance so I ended up buying about 3 or 4 yards. I figured if I screwed this up, I had enough to try again – or at least not feel bad that I wasted fabric. I gotta say though, it was really easy to sew with…. until the double coverstitch. I don’t really know what I’m doing with the tension settings, I only have it figured out for medium weight fabrics. I had a few skipped stitches but I really think that was a me error and not the machine. This was my first time using the coverstitch for the top-stitching portion around the neck and I LOVE IT! It adds such a professional look and the stretch is still perfect. I’ve always been scared that I’ve made this whole garment and that if I top-stitch it’s going to mess things up. So yay for conquering fears!
My measurements were 36-31-40, according to the pattern that put me in a Medium – Large – Large. I decided to go with the suggested sizes for the first shirt and graded M-L-L. I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s fitted but also not clingy.
I was a little bold with the second top, I had confidence in this pattern. I’ve had this elephant fabric in my stash for years. I got it from Girl Charlee* back when they still did the KnitFix thing. I love this fabric and was always too scared to cut into it. Then again, I have this issue with majority of my fabric and that’s why I have a huge stash. But 2018 is the year of #stashbusting!! I can do it!! I’m also thinking of taking some of my older big t-shirts and seeing if I can cut them down into something a bit more flattering with this pattern.
The best thing about this pattern? In over half of the sizes you only need 1 yard of fabric! Also, it’s crazy simple to sew up. This one would be great for a beginner sewist who wants to try knits. All you really need is a ball point needle and zig-zag stitch. This pattern could be finished in 1-2 hours, depending on how distracted you get (aka, I had Friends on in the background and kept stopping to watch. I’ve seen this show a hundred times but still get sucked in).
Overall, great pattern and this is part of my #2018makenine. I’m looking through my stash for any lonely 1 yard cuts that might want to be made into something. Also, if you want to see sneak peeks of what I’m making or connect socially, check me out on Instagram. I’ve been a lot more active on there and plan to show more of my garments that never make it to the blog.
