As many of you already know, I’m crazy wicked inspired by Gwen Stefani. She’s been my idol for the last 16 years and I’m sure this “phase” isn’t going to stop anytime soon. I’ve always been a ‘Gwenabee’ and trying to copy her looks and ideas, I just can’t help myself. Back in July 2012 No Doubt’s new single ‘Settle Down’ came out along with the music video. I instantly loved the crazy pants she was wearing, which I later found out were made exclusively for her by her L.A.M.B. clothing line. I was planning on going to New York City to see No Doubt on both Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America at the end of July and figured this was a perfect excuse to copy cat her outfit.
I hadn’t really ever tried to make pants so I was a bit nervous – but determined! I searched for days trying to find a similar type of pattern and looking for sari’s that I could turn into pants. I didn’t have much luck but I did come across this pattern that inspired me:
I bought that fabric, elastic for the waistband, black & white piping, black & white ribbon, black ribbon, silver circular shiny sequin like things (sorry – I don’t know the proper term!) and a few other odds and ends. I started by taking my favorite pair of jeans and turning them inside out to make a pattern. I worked nonstop for a few days on this because my time frame was super limited. I had a week from the time the video came out til the day I left for NYC! I had 95% of it finished and was still sewing on sequins and safety pinning the ribbon up the sides but in the end they turned out pretty awesome! I had lots of fans stop and compliment them and ask where I got them – so I was happy!
Here are a few more pictures of Gwen’s pants:
Here are a few pictures of the finished product:
Here I am with a few other insane No Doubt loving fans in NYC right before Good Morning America:
I had SO MUCH fun in NYC! Besides all the sight seeing, it was just really neat to see how television shows work and of course to see No Doubt live again!
I still have everything to recreate Gwen’s bum flap, so I need to get around to that one of these days 🙂
I’m pretty darn excited – I entered this copy cat look on i heart fabric’s copy cat challenge! Check it out and join in on the fun <3
