I made view A with a super adorable stretch knit from JoAnn Fabric. This sleeper is for my best friend Sherry and her soon-to-be-here little girl. Sherry isn’t crazy about lots of pink, so I decided to go with a nice pale yellow. Plus I am in love with this print and want my out sleeper made out of it… I am a sucker for baby animals!

OMG I need a baby elephant!

This was my first try with any kind of stretchy knit. Overall it was pretty simple to work with once I got the hang of it. I made sure I had a knit needle in the sewing machine and I fussed around with tension settings on my serger. The instructions are very easy and I had no problems with the mittens (I was kind of worried I’d screw them up!)

I didn’t make the little hat or the blanket. I really have no good reason why besides the fact I was being lazy I guess. Although, in my defense it was during the time I was making 101 baby outfits with very limited time!

The hardest part was the zipper. I tried and tried to get it to lay flat but I was having a hell of a time! I sewed it and unpicked it about 3 times before I figured it was good enough… I had enough! But overall it’s not bad at all. Most people wouldn’t even notice but I’m my own worst critic.

looks spiffy with my tag ;)
looks spiffy with my tag 😉

I did try my best to line up the animals on the front on each side of the zipper but it was a task! It went well until towards the bottom… oh well – still looks cute and it was my very first time! Overall I’m super pleased with the sleeper and it looks so adorable in person. When I was packing up the gift I was impressed that I had made it, it looked like something you’d buy at the store 🙂 I felt really proud of myself.

When Sherry opened it at her shower she cried a little, tears of joy, not “omg I have to pretend to like this” 😉 HAHA! I can’t wait to see this on the new baby! I’ll post pictures when she’s born and modeling it!

    1. Thanks Mom 🙂 I really love how the outfit turned out – so cute! Then again anything would be cute with that baby animal fabric 😉 I’ll make you something one day… and for real this time haha.. not like the 4th of July scrubs that I was supposed to make 10 years ago…

  2. That is adorable and a brilliant present as those sleeping bags are so useful but so expensive to buy. Yay!

    1. I don’t have babies so I don’t know what is helpful and what’s not – but I figured it could get lots of use 🙂 I’d say it’s my favorite baby thing I’ve made so far!

  3. Hi Amy,
I found you as a reviewer on Pattern Review. You really make some amazing things. While looking through your blog posts, I saw the one with the baby dress/bag.

I am looking for that yellow baby fabric. I have checked 3 Joann’s, but no luck. Also I cannot find it on the web. I was wondering if you go to your Joann’s and see it, could you let me know and I will get in touch with that Joann’s and see if I can purchase it.

I realize this is a lot to ask and I understand if this is too much trouble.

I will be looking for more of your posts at PR.

    1. Thank you very much! I will check next time I’m there, no worries! I may not be there until Saturday but I’ll remember to look for you 🙂 And it’s no trouble, I completely understand!

        1. I checked on Saturday and they don’t have that fabric anymore 🙁 I’m sorry! If I see it at any other Jo-Ann’s I’ll let you know though!

          1. Amy, thanks so much for checking. It was such a cute pattern and nice yellow, I am not surprised it is gone.

Thanks again for checking for me.
