AMY’S OWL YOU NEED APRON
I think this is my favorite Minerva Crafts Blogger Network make so far! I didn’t have any troubles making it and it turned out looking so professional and cute. Right now owls are all the rage (although, I like foxes better) and when I saw Minerva’s owl fabric I immediately pinned it and started thinking about what to make. The idea of an apron popped into my head and I was sold!
I used McCalls M6366 pattern view B. I like all 3 of the views, so I’ll be making this pattern over and over again.
Aprons are fantastic projects for beginner sewists because they are typically very simple and you don’t have to fight with with the fit. I measured myself and came up with size medium. I got out the fabric I ordered and realized I apparently can’t read patterns and didn’t order enough fabric! Uh-Oh! I started freaking out but realized I could make it work if I went with a size small instead. In the end I think size small worked out perfect.
I was supposed to put rick rack and extra buttons on the front but I felt they took away from the owl print. I didn’t want the apron to look too busy. I love this pattern though because it’s super simple, quick to make and very customizable. The belt is extra long because it’s supposed to to wrap around and tie in front of your waist. I debated on shortening them but I like the look and since I had to cut the front skirt part into 2 pieces (instead of 1) I left them long to cover up my seam.
Another great thing about this apron? POCKETS! I know I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again – I love pockets on everything. I mean, where else are you going to put your cell phone and Chapstick? This apron has so many great details:
Contrast pockets:
Ruffles on the bottom:
Tabs on the neck ties:
Overall I highly, highly, super duper recommend this pattern. It’s so simple and looks great finished. Like I said before though, I didn’t have enough fabric, so I didn’t do all the contrast how the pattern recommends. Here is how I did mine based upon the pattern piece # and which fabric:

If you want your own “Owl You Need Apron” make sure to pick up the kit and let me know how it turns out! And of course, Guinness approves!
Really, really, cute!
thank you <3
Its so cute! I totally missed that you’d become a Minerva network blogger! Congrats! That’s so awesome. Love the apron, can’t wait to see more:)
Thank you! I love blogging with them, they are all so nice and very helpful. You should apply 🙂
OMG! I freakin’ love this!! Can it be made in XLFat?
Like a fat quarter or size XL? I’d say you need more fabric if you are talking about a fat quarter but if you mean size XL you sure can. I should have been a Medium according to the measurements and I made a Small (since I didn’t have enough fabric) and it seemed like a good fit!
Amy you are so freaking cool…love this apron and owls are good : )
But as I am your mom…just got to say love that color (red) for your kitchen…..oh wait my kitchen is red/black also…lol
Guinness is a cutie….oh and the cookies look good…Love you, Mom
This is fab! I love the owls and the pockets, pockets are essential on an apron!
Thank you 😀 The pockets really make the apron look great!
That’s sew cute! I love the pocket detail and the contrasting owls. The cookies made me laugh so hard, I would probably end up doing the same exact thing.
P.S Thanks for the surprise headband! That made my week:)
