I’m back with another vacation post! I actually made this swimsuit last year for vacation but never blogged about it. I have no idea why I didn’t, I love the suit but I guess something else new and shiny must have caught my attention.
This is the Soma Swimsuit by Papercut Patterns. There are 3 different versions: 2 bikinis and a one-piece. The bikinis have the option of high waist or low. I wouldn’t call it super low considering the types of swimsuits I saw in San Andres. I actually was feeling so overdressed in my swimsuits that I bought a couple booty showing ones.
My measurements in the photos are 36-30-39, when I made this they were 36-32-41 so I made a size XS in the top and M in the bottom. I do think the cups on the top fit a bit snug, so next time I’ll go with a S. Back when I first made these I though the bottoms needed a bit more fabric, but now with losing weight I think they fit perfectly. They are super comfy and most importantly – THEY DON’T FALL DOWN!
What sold me on this pattern was the strappy detailing. Papercut Patterns made theirs in black and I loved it so much that I didn’t want to venture out with a print. Even though black is “boring” the details make up for it. I won’t lie though, it’s hard to sew through all the layers of Fold Over Elastic (FOE)! The instructions were very clear, the drafting was great and the swimsuit was easy to assemble. I wouldn’t recommend swim for a beginner though, it can be a little tricky.
The fabric is just basic black swim from JoAnn and so is the FOE. The bra sliders and rings are from Porcelynn.com. I highly recommend her, she answers questions quickly and ships out even faster!
Overall, great pattern and I want to give a printed design a go soon – so check back to see how that one turns out!
