Patterns For Pirates – The Basic Tee

This week I’m going back to the basics. It’s so easy to overlook a basic pattern because it’s not all frilly and shiny but honestly, basics are my favorite. I love crazy prints and basics are perfect for showcasing them.

This is The Basic Tee from Patterns For Pirates. It comes with a bunch of options: Crop top, regular shirt, dress and you can make different sleeve options and necklines.

The description calls for light to medium weight fabric. The black shirt I made is lightweight and the pink feathers is medium weight. I will say that I am not a fan of the medium weight one I made but I do really like the lightweight.

I made my usual size for Patterns For Pirates – Medium in the bust and graded out to Large in the waist and hips. I would say the fit is spot on. The black one is sort of a V-neck. I cut the wrong neckband! So it’s basically v-neck but with scoop neckband. It kinda works out.

I should have made a swayback adjustment but you all know how lazy I am with that.

The black fabric is from my stash, so I have no idea where it came from? Maybe JoAnn? The pink is from a custom knit resell group. I honestly thought it was white but when it came it’s a weird pink. It’s cute but not my style. I used it as a muslin to check if I liked medium weight in this pattern. I don’t.

It just doesn’t flow and makes me look larger than I am.

The back is even worse. Oh well. Glad I didn’t cut into my favorite customs!

Overall – great pattern if you are going to use lightweight knits. I would say it’s good for medium weight if you’re sizing down and making it an undershirt sort of situation. But if you are planning to do that, you might as well make Pattern For Pirates Layer Me Up shirt.
