Sorry I haven’t updated in awhile but I’ve been SUPER busy and sewing like a crazy person! I’m excited to say that my Sew For Victory Challenge dress is complete!

This project was definitely a challenge for me! I used this 1940’s Sue Burnett mail order pattern I found from the antique mall:

“Makes sewing a pleasure, ensures perfect fit” – MY ASS!! This pattern was difficult for me. It’s non-printed, which I actually had no issues with but the fit was awful. It’s a size 14 which is perfect but I think they meant size 14 and with Dolly Parton boobs! I had to take in almost 10 inches around the bust! I’m not busty or anything but I’m not non-existant in that area either. Because of having to take it in so much I had some issues with the overall fit. I think it did turn out nicely but I wish I could have done better with it. I should have made a muslin first and then I would have been able to clear up the bust fit issues but I didn’t have time. Oh well, live and learn!

1940’s ladies totally wore Hello Kitty shoes by the barn
The seersucker material is perfect for summer though, very light and airy – I love it. I’m a big fan of the pink gingham print but my husband kept telling me it looks like a tablecloth LOL. I love that he’s always so honest, one of his best (and worse) qualities. He was kind enough to be my photographer and the snow finally melted so I could go outside for better shots. The sun was crazy bright, so ignore the squinting 😉

Me focusing on Guinness (as always) and not the camera

Wonder if anyone had bright red/pink hair in the 1940’s?

So serious black and white

Sun? What is that?!
Thank you to Rochelle at Lucky Lucille for having this fun 1940’s Sew For Victory Challenge!
In the next few days I will have my Mad Men Dress Challenge pictures up, a review of Gertie’s B5882 Dress and a review of Butterick’s B4885 Dog Coat – so keep checking back! Time to go make cupcakes for tomorrow’s Easter gathering – Happy Easter everyone!
Its really pretty!! I love it. It definitely looked like a lot of work went into it! It suits this challenge perfectly (even if your husband thinks it looks like a tablecloth) , a very pretty tablecloth at that! You even have the matching hair bow!! 🙂
Yay! You noticed the hair bow I made 😀 I tried to throw something together really quickly to kinda tie it all together. Thanks for the kinda words, it so was much work – I’m glad it’s complete and what do husbands know? HAHA!
Wow, its so pretty! I’m so impressed that it fits so well considering how much you had to take it in! I love the matching bolero too. And I can’t believe you’ve finished so many other projects too, you’ve been busy!
Thank you! The bolero made it look really cute so I was glad I made it. I was debating at first, I’m glad I did! I’ve been super busy sewing like crazy <3
well, despite your fitting nightmares, I think it looks lovely 🙂 And NOT like a tablecloth! lol
Thanks so much!!! I’ll have to let him know 😉 LOL Silly men!
