Vogue 9311 – The Vacation Dress

Vogue 9311 – The Vacation Dress

Once again, I haven’t been posting but I’ve been sewing like crazy for vacation. I thought since I started a month early that I would be ahead of the game, but no. I realized that starting early just means I add more things to my sewing list! I made 3 1/2 dresses, 2 coverups and 2 bikinis. I wanted to finish up the one dress, make a wrap dress and a towel type cover-up but seriously, that’s just insane. I even took a day off work to make a bikini. I spent all day working on it and the top is way too small and the bottoms way too big. I think I can save it but I’m so pissed at it that I threw it aside. I’ll worry about it when spring comes along!

This is Vogue 9311 view B. It’s described as a loose fitting pull-over dress made from wovens. Both views have a very deep V front and high back. There are sleeve variations but I used view A’s sleeves because I figured view B’s would be too hot for Mexico. View A has ruffles on the bottom and view B has a high slit in the front.

Both views require single fold bias tape for the finishings and both are fabric hogs. You’ll need between 3.5 – 5 yards. You’re supposed to use lining fabric but I didn’t, there really isn’t a need. View A is great for border prints if you’re into those. I used a silky print from JoAnn and it’s perfect. Oh, and this pattern comes WITH POCKETS!!! YAY!!! #alwayspockets

My measurements are 36-32-41 which put me in a size 14-18-17 but I know how the Big 4 are with their ease so I went with 12 bust graded to 14 in the waist and hips. I also added 2″ to the length because 1. I’m tall and 2. I wanted it to be floor length and super fancy. I could have sized up on the waist but it doesn’t really matter since there are ties and you can tighten it in the back. You do want to make sure the bust is the correct size so the bust darts are in the right place.

I don’t typically wear such low cut dresses but OMG, I seriously am obsessed with this dress. I want to make about 10 more. This was amazing on vacation and I feel like it was super flattering. I tied the ties to the front because I forgot to add them onto the skirt and added them onto the bodice, but I actually really like this look better!

If you are into deep V dresses then this pattern is for you. If you want want a flattering dress then this pattern is for you. If you’re going on vacation then this pattern is for you. Basically, MAKE THIS PATTERN! Haha! Anyways, this is the only garment I made that I took somewhat clear photos of. I kinda just gave up on worrying about the blog and photos and all the things while on vacation. We had a blast and I can’t wait to go back! That said, here’s the turtle picture I’ve spammed all over Instagram. My husband took this while we were swimming. They were just out in the water at our resort and super friendly!

  1. Well done! I was searching for the finished dress of this pattern. Great choice on fabric. The dress looks wonderful on you–and even though there is so much fabric, you are not overwhelmed. You stand out while wearing this, not the dress.
