Don’t worry, I haven’t given up on sewing or my website – just been busy and unmotivated. I gotta say, when it’s negative temperatures outside it is really hard to want to do anything. After we get home from the gym I rather curl up in bed with my husband and dog to watch Law & Order reruns. But I can’t really feel productive when I do that.
So besides Law & Order, what have I been up to? Well, I’ve made a few garments that I need to get around to blogging about. I have made more headbands for my Etsy shop: That’s Sew Amy Shop and I’ve taken up knitting. I took a class at my local JoAnn store and have the basics down. I’m super duper new to knitting and have been trying to research as much as I can about it. I’m also trying to get used to holding the needles and not making a spaghetti mess!
Anyone have some pointers about knitting? Or something, besides a scarf, that I should make as a newbie? I signed up on ravelry.com and hope to get good enough to make myself a sweater soon. I’m sure I’ll get it finished in the middle of summer 😉
Another fun task I’m trying to learn: Quilting. I have 4 classes starting Saturday and we will go over everything from start to finish. I’m really excited to have someone, besides the internet, there to teach me and answer any random questions I may have. Bonus, I got the class for 50% off! I love the coupons in their app. This is the quilt class from JoAnn:
I picked out mainly black and white fabrics with a pop of blue and salmon. I hope it turns out great and I’ll actually use it! The size is a crib size, so I assume it will be a throw on the couch. Either way, I’ll take pictures and update about my experience and progress.
On an ending note, Amol from www.terrysfabrics.co.uk sent me this sewing resurgence infographic and it’s really interesting. I’m glad sewing is becoming popular again, not only is it a great life skill to have – it’s also fun!
